Hadley K9 at Stonington Kennels, Inc.

Beginner Obedience
Focuses on ‘dog management’ and ‘people training’. Intended for puppies 14 weeks and older, juvenile, young adults and adult dogs that have never had obedience class. Also for first-time dog owners. Skills taught include (but not limited to) Sit, Down, Come, Stay, Safety skills, Eliminating jumping and mouthing, and Walking on a loose leash. Socialization is strongly emphasized. Lessons are approximately one hour in length and last six weeks; lecture and practice time vary with the lesson.  Methods of teaching include food motivation, distraction training and use of verbal praise and toys.

Intermediate Obedience
Builds on skills taught in the Beginner class. Intended for juvenile and young adult and adult dogs that demonstrate willingness to work and enjoyment of obedience. Also for handlers who want more training and refining of their handling skills. Students (human & canine) should have completed a Beginner class with a class prior to enrolling in Intermediate Obedience. Skills taught include (but are not limited to) Stand, Heel, Intensive Exercises, Extended and Distraction Stays, Basic Agility.  Focus on the handler will include precision heeling and minimizing body language. There is much less lecture and much more floor time by comparison to the Beginner class, as the age of the dogs should allow for longer work periods. This class will be more physically demanding on both dog and handler!

Private lessons are available by appointment.

All training is done in a 40' by 80' heated Training Barn or fenced-in fields.

The Training Barn is also available for rent for obedience or breed matches and seminars.
